Welcome to North Umpqua Brittanys, Oregon Brittany breeder. We are a small family kennel located in Glide, Oregon, the home of the Colliding Rivers. This is where Little River and The North Umpqua River collide. We have hunted and raised The American Brittany since 1972 when we got our first Brittany, Toma.
The American Brittany is the smallest of the pointing breed. They are a medium-sized, leggy dog. The dogs long legs are the same height at the shoulders as the length of the body. Height should be from 17-1/2 to 20-1/2 inches at the shoulders. Their weight should be between 30 to 40 pounds. The short tail is set high, either naturally short or docked to 4 inches or less. The single coat is lightly feathered, dense, flat or wavy, never curly.
Brittanys are orange and white, liver and white, with either clear or roan patterns, or tri-colored. A tri-color Brittany is liver and white with classic orange markings on eyebrows, muzzle and cheeks, inside the ears and under the tail, ticking on the lower legs are orange. Brittanys are gentle and affectionate, energetic and fun-loving, intelligent, friendly and trustworthy. They are obedient and eager to please, thus making them very easy to train and never requiring harsh words. They are good-natured and love being part of a family and form a strong bond with their family. The Brittany is one of the most popular breeds of gun dog. Female Brittanys use their intelligence to connive, manipulate, and get there way while male Brittanys are easily persuadable. When not enjoying the great outdoors, the Brittany is quite content enjoying all the comforts of home. They travel well and are very social, making them a perfect match for the active family and are natural hunters. Life expectancy is 12-16 years. The Brittany is not recommended for apartment life, they require a fenced yard and because they are hunting dogs they need daily exercise. Brittanys love all outdoor activities.
